This really made me laugh. Ahh sea swimming is the best. I was a non swimming child due to my mum's childhood almost drowning trauma. She wouldnt go past her knees! However a friend insisted on teaching me how to swim as a twenty something adult, because he wouldn't have it that I hadnt learnt. He took me down to the pool at our work every day at lunchtime and drillled me until I could do it. (Not like that! 😉) That was 25 years ago, but every time I get to swim in the sea I message him to say thank you for his patience. What a gift he has given me!
I love this so much. I love wild swimming. My psychologist - who’s cool as fuck! (I’m Autistic & ADHD so full on neurospicy 🌶️😎). He explained all about the chemical process & the biological processes that happens to you when you jump in cold water. You literally don’t have any choice but to calm down - I think your body goes into like immediate shock and it changes lots of things in your brain and your body but it has to be for a certain amount of seconds before it all kicks in proper, like! I was fascinated (The Autism).. then instantly forgot (The ADHD was like just go fucking swimming - don’t research it for four weeks). I also have friends that don’t like water. Even by just putting your head in a cold sink of water there is a chemical reaction that happens in your brain. It’s actually from Marsha Lineham’s DBT stuff.
I’ve just moved from Ramsgate to Broadstairs and only swum off Rams main sands, Dumpton and Botony and all when it’s hot and sunny! Need to try Stone and other beaches, but I’m defo a fair weatherer ha ha so this post has made me think I better woman up and get back in.
Well that hit a positive nerve this morning!!! Love the sea, love saunas.... live as far away from the sea as is possible - in the good old East Midlands...
Thank you for your inspiring post....
Plans afoot to visit the coast over the next few weeks :) X
Hi Lou I have seen you on QI. I live in Australia and we have blue seas all around the country. I liked to swim when I was younger but I am 72 now and the sea is not so much fun. this is my first post to you. You make me happy. Thanks.
I need to get over my apathy of the last six or seven months and get my backside into Walpole tidal pool. Need to get them endorphins rattling around my brain
I love living near the sea up here in the Portobello area of Edinburgh but for most of the year the North Sea is just too bloody cold for me to swim - feels like my heart will stop. Though I do enjoy a paddle, standing ankle deep and just staring out towards Norway
You don't have to answer this .Privacy and all that .But I was just Curious have you moved back to your home town of Broadstairs or anywhere in Thanet? or are you somewhere else by the sea. And yes living near the sea is great.

Ahhh that’s so sweet of him!
Would love to move to the coast, still too shackled to the grim Midlands. Nearest we've got is Stourport-on-severn (think seaside town from Wish).
You were great in Last one Laughing. Naughty Torty!

Really great conversation with Rich Fulcher and his talking box. So many comics out in the world worth checking out!
I can feel the waves washing over me 🌊 😊

I feel like British people and the sea is like... I dunno. All sea and shit.
Love that.

Its the best feeling,
In the sea, being under it,
zooming about on the top in a boat with the spray in your face !
Where abouts have you moved to Lou ?
I Sea what you've done here hehe 😉🤭
